Now we KNOW when the end-of-the-world-as-we-know-it will be.
Harold Camping, an 89 year-old End Of The World Enthusiast, says the end will be this May 21. “I know it's absolutely true, because the Bible is always absolutely true” Harold has been adamant before about knowing when the End of the World was going to be. Long before his newly found conviction that it will take place this May, he predicted the End-Of-The-World-as-We-Know-It would be on September 4, 1994.
New Rule: If you ever decide to sell everything you own based on something a crazy person tells you is in the Bible, you might want to read it first yourself. And if that something has to do with the end of the world.. .please read the whole thing. Next time, maybe start with Matt 24:36 where Jesus says, "No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father." Apparently, Harold thinks he has more insight to the Big Plan than Jesus.
But, for all we know, Harold could be right, even if only by accident. In the daily global news cycle we are incessantly hammered on from all sides with the terrible things that are happening, seemingly everywhere, and I think it becomes easy to think that the end is happening now. But what everyone has to remember, not just Christians, but everyone, is that really good advice on what we should be doing while hanging out waiting for the end: live responsibly, faithfully, compassionately, and courageously.
